Hospitalist Program

When admission to the hospital is necessary, your primary care physician may refer your care to a Hospitalist. Once admitted to either Cobb Memorial Hospital or Hart County Hospital, the hospitalist will be in charge of your care and see you daily. Since hospitalists do not maintain an outpatient practice, they are more readily available to respond to labs, test results and emergency situations of hospital patients. By also maintaining close relationships with referring physicians and other medical professionals, hospitalists provide an added level of continuous care with enhanced availability to you, family members and your primary care doctor. Ty Cobb Healthcare System has teamed up with Longstreet Inpatient Medicine to provide the hospitalist services at both Cobb Memorial Hospital and Hart County Hospital.

  • What is Longstreet Inpatient Medicine?
  •  Established in 1997, Longstreet Inpatient Medicine is a medical team made up of specialized physicians and certified nurse practitioners dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality of care when they are hospitalized. Our physicians focus their practice on inpatients and specialize in all aspects of a hospitalized patient’s care, from admission to discharge.

  • What happens when a patient is admitted by Longstreet Inpatient Medicine?
  • When admission to the hospital is necessary, your primary care physician may refer your care to a Longstreet Inpatient Medicine internist. If you do not have a primary care physician, we will assist you, your family and hospital case management to coordinate follow-up care. Working with emergency department physicians, your primary care physician, specialists, referring physicians, nurses and other clinical staff, we manage and coordinate your inpatient experience.

  • What makes our practice unique?
  •  Our doctors are different from primary care physicians in that we do not maintain an outpatient practice or office, which makes us more readily available to respond to labs, test results and emergency situations whenever hospitalization is required. Because we are always in the hospital, the Longstreet Inpatient Medicine team provides an added level of continuous care with enhanced availability to patients, family members and their primary care doctors. We strive to provide compassionate patient care and recognize the need for good communication.

  • What are the benefits of hospital medicine?
  • Available at all times, inpatient physicians are familiar with the inner workings of the hospital, which can lead to an up to 15% reduction in length of stay, less complications and lower mortality rates, according to some studies. The practice of hospital medicine represents one of the most rapidly growing forms of medical practice in the United States. Hospitals and medical practices across the country have implemented programs similar to Longstreet Inpatient Medicine.
