Diabetes Education Services

Learning you have diabetes can be a scary diagnosis for many people. We understand that. That is why we offer a full range of diabetes education services so patients understand how to manage their diabetes and live healthy active lives. We offer diabetes self management training, medical nutrition therapy, monthly support group meetings, and an annual diabetes workshop, all focused on teaching you how to manage diabetes.

Free Monthly Diabetes Support Groups
On the 3rd Thursday of every month from 5:30-6:30pm we hold diabetes support group meetings. These rotate between Hartwell, Royston, and Lavonia. The meetings are focused on discussing diabetes self-care issues. The goal is to provide participants with a support system along with tips on ways to lead a healthier life. If you would like to be added to our mailing list for monthly support group reminders please email your name and mailing address to rene.starrett@tycobbhealthcare.com .

Annual Diabetes Workshop
This FREE event features vendor booths, speakers on diabetes related topics, door prizes and much more.

Whether it is diabetes self management training or monthly diabetes support group, we focus on the following:

  • Healthy Eating
Our Registered Dietitian can instruct you on carbohydrate counting, portion size, and meal planning. We also offer cooking tips and recipe swaps during our monthly support groups.
  • Being Active
Leading an active lifestyle is an important part of managing diabetes.
The Fitness Firm is our fitness facility located in Lavonia. There our fitness experts can give you instruction on how to lead an active lifestyle and small changes you can make every day to increase your activity level.
  • Monitoring
Through diabetes self management training and support groups, participants will learn the importance of monitoring, how to monitor effectively, and meter training.
  • Taking Medication
Through diabetes self managment training and support groups you will learn about the importance of diabetes medications and how they affect your blood sugar. Patients who are prescribed insulin will be trained on how to properly inject their insulin.
  • Problem Solving
Knowing how to deal with an unexpected problem can effect how well you control your diabetes. Through diabetes self management training and our monthly support groups we will help you learn the skills you need to deal with life’s unexpected issues.
  • Reducing Risk
Having diabetes puts you at a higher risk for developing other health problems. We will help you understand the risks and take steps now to lower your chances of developing diabetes-related complications.
  • Healthy Coping
Diabetes can affect you physically and emotionally. The important thing is to recognize your emotions and take steps to reduce the negative impact they could have on your diabetes care.
